History

Extraction De Smet : 1947

It all started in 1946, when an engineer from Antwerp, Mr. Jean-Albert De Smet designed and developed the first horizontal process for the continuous extraction of oilseeds. DS Group original activity, Extraction De Smet (currently “De Smet Technologies & Services”), was born.

Since, the company has consolidated its international leadership in oilseed, edible oil and bio-diesel processing plants with more than
5 700 plants sold in 148 countries.

In 2003, the company became part of the Desmet Ballestra, an independent group.

De Smet Engineers & Contractors : 1990

De Smet Engineers & Contractors was created in 1990 when DS Group recognized the need for establishing a specific entity dedicated to large construction projects and turn-key contracts in the agro-industry.

It has, since, built numerous plants, and extended its activities to the construction of biofuels and environmental facilities.
